The President's Assassin by Brian Haig

FROM THE PUBLISHER
"It looked like a mass execution: six people, systematically shot and killed in a private Washington mansion. One of the targets happened to be the White House Chief of Staff. But that wasn't the reason Sean Drummond was called in on the case. Newly enlisted in a CIA cell called the Office of Special Projects, the former Army lawyer was informed that the murders were just a warning. The killer had left a note: "You can't stop us. There will be others, and the President will be history in the next two days."" The clock is ticking. The hunt begins for the ultimate killer-for-hire - a brilliant, coldhearted professional with an insider's knowledge of Washington. For Sean Drummond, it's the greatest challenge of his career, a terrifying cat-and-mouse game with unthinkable consequences. If he fails, the world will never be the same - and one calculating killer will collect the $100 million bounty on the President's head.

Acrobat by Gonzalo Lira

FROM THE PUBLISHER
Accused of stealing sixty million dollars and selling U.S. secrets, Acrobat must go underground. Pursued from the secret corridors of the CIA to the gritty streets of New York by their former allies and friends, they soon realize there is a traitor among them. But who would betray the trust of the group?

Caught in a web of lies and deceit, the group must decide: stay and fight or run and escape? Stylish, edgy and completely original-from the explosive opening scene to the final astonishing moments-this is masterful storytelling at breakneck speeds.

Comic book style narrative, very simplistic plot, cannot make out who is the villian or hero in the plot. Author's target seems to be juvenile audience with soundeffects and comice book style writing.
You will come across words like "PLACK", "Kah-FLUEY", "Pok", "PAHM"interspersed within prose. It is quite irritating after a while.

The Black Angel by John Connolly

FROM THE PUBLISHER
"The Black Angel begins with the disappearance of a young prostitute from one of New York City's seamiest neighborhoods. Like so many tormented souls before her, the girl's mother is inevitable drawn to Charlie Parker's doorstep desperate for redemption and revenge. Despite the danger that his chosen profession imposes on his wife and newborn daughter, Parker knows that the woman and her troubles cannot be ignored. As always, he is driven as much by the evil that simmers in the hidden honeycomb world as he is by the ties of friendship and blood." As Parker gets closer to the girl's captors, he discovers that her disappearance is linked to a church of bones in Eastern Europe, to the slaughter at a French monastery in 1944, and to the myth of an object known as the Black Angel - an object considered by evil men to be beyond priceless. But the Black Angel is not a legend. It is real. It lives. It dreams. And the mystery of its existence may contain the secret of Parker's own origins.Rating: 4 Stars
The Eighth Day by John Case

FROM THE PUBLISHER
"For Danny Cray, a struggling artist and part-time private investigator, the offer is too good to be true. A wealthy, enigmatic lawyer, Jude Belzer, would like to retain Danny for a little damage control. His client, an elusive billionaire, is the target of a vicious campaign by the Italian press that threatens to destroy his reputation. Belzer wants Danny to find out who is responsible and he will pay handsomely." Danny's only lead is the meager estate of a recently deceased professor of religious studies, a man so deeply terrified that he buried himself alive in the basement of an isolated farmhouse. Belzer swears that if Danny can get at the late professor's files, the conspiracy against his own reclusive client will unravel. It's the perfect assignment, in a way, and Danny can sure use the money. But the more he probes, the more apparent it becomes that nothing is what it seems. There is something he isn't being told. Something that's not quite right. Something dark, fast, and sinister that's coming at him from behind.Rating: 4 Stars
The Almond by Nedjma, Hunter

FROM THE PUBLISHER
"The Almond casts new light on sexuality and women in Islam. It is a journey into the erotic undercurrents of a world that is, outwardly and to Western eyes, near-puritanical." Badra is a young Muslim woman in a brutal arranged marriage who flees her small town of Imchouk for Tangiers, to take refuge with her Uncle Slimane's iconoclastic ex-wife, who has always advised Badra to seek her own pleasure. In Imchouk, it was expected that Badra's life should be ruled by her husband, but at Aunt Selma's she can finally speak about her sexual history, beginning with the horror of her marriage, and to think about how she wants to live from now on. What she chooses bears little resemblance to the role of timid, sexless wife that had been selected for her. She recalls her youthful curiosity about sex - what other girls' and women's anatomy was like, her first attempts to spy on men, her fascination with the two beautiful prostitute sisters who lived outside Imchouk. When she meets a wealthy doctor and society man at a party, she embarks on a passionate, consuming relationship with him that will teach her a pleasure she has never known before.Rating: 3 Stars
