The Hundredth Man by Jack Kerley
Out of favor cop and his partner are stumped by a serial killer who hatches a very convoluted and complex plot to get at his ultimate victim. Good debut effort by the writer. The story is quite tense throughout but is spolilt by the unreal ending where it turns out that the villian has plotted everything far in advance to a great detail. Given the characterisation of the killer it does not seem real.
